Well, at least I think he does.
Maybe a couple of days before he lets us know how he's getting on in his own inimitable, quaint wee way!!!
Good luck Keith and hope you and yours enjoy the whole experience.

Is he coming to take part in the final selection of Cyprus 2010 Eurovision entry??? On tonight!
Although, I thought the entry from Paphos was being sung by a young girl _________________ Regards

Amazing
McIngy1 has just left Scotland and the place seems to be still alive and buzzing. Of course if he is performing in the Cyprus Euro entry then things could change for the better …… or the worse.
Followed your plans Keith and may I add my wishes to you & Rhona for a happy retirement

Well folks, we made it- one stressed out dog, a seriously miffed cat, a flustered wife and one delighted ex flower buyer ! When I got the dog out of her cage outside Paphos airport and gave her a big hug I knew we had arrived
The homestead is slightly the worse for wear- lots of weeding and painting to look forward to, and the central heating system is being overhauled as I type- cold as a witch's tit it's been but I honestly can't say I'm bothered in the slightest !
Digby from Holitec just installed the broadband so we are making almost astonishing progess in turn our old holiday villa into our new Cypriot home.
Couple of great moments so far- first the discovery of Mythos beer (or methane beer as Rhona has found out to her cost )- buy one get one free. A truly stonking lager for 53 cents per half litre bottle- great value
Second, the olives from Papantonios supermarket- I've had some horrible rancid things from Sainsbury's these last 36 months since I was last in Cyprus, but these were as meaty as plums and divinely bitter- just wonderful
Went for a meal to a Cypriot taverna last night- just the main courses ordered- sheftalia and kleftiko- both EXCELLENT- free olive oil and garlic salt toast thrown in along raw vegetables for starters and a huge brandy for moi and liquer for the lady thrown in gratis- superb value in front of a roaring open fire.
First night I drove through my new home town, popped in to order a pizza and a beer and sat outside drinking the latter whilst they cooked the former- never felt so contented in my life. Walked my dog the next day round the local dirt track, met my new neighbour and had a chat, walked to the shop to get my paper and went shopping with the wife- even that, if not quite a pleasure, certainly bordered on fun
The BA flight out only had about 30 people on it- those who could have been on those empty seats don't know what they are missing
Thanks for all your best wishes- have the glazing company coming round tomorrow- I will keep you posted _________________ Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day. |

All the best to you all in your new adventure , it may be a bit chilly there at the moment but at least your dog and cat can acclimatise gradually, it would be a bit of a shock for them if you moved in the summer.
I am looking foreward to your humourous and interesting tales of settling in,

Not so much an item as an odd couple
As for the asterisk- I hope that's an "r" not an "l"- she puts up with a lot but I would not expect her to put up with that _________________ Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day. |

Hi McIngy and family.
Velllcooomb to Cypruuuuus as the locals would say. (Rolling their 'R's too. ) Look forward to meeting you one day. You are one of my favourite 'posters' always making me laugh or cringe with your comments.
I usually skip the long posts as i can't seem to concentrate for too long.
Anyway all the best.

What a wondeful new phase in your lives, which I am sure will be as enjoyable as you expect.
As someone who enjoys keeping up with what is happening in Cyprus, and also for those interested in moving to Cyprus, it would be beneficial to get your informative and often amusing blogs on what problems you face, and what has gone well over your first year.
So why not start a "McIngy Chronicles" thread.
Anyone else think this a good idea? _________________ Ian

I'll give the impending CL night out a rain check I'm afraid- still a few things up in the air that might entail me going back to the UK for a few days in the next month or so.
Few tales of derring do already though- went to the Mardoor office in Polis today after an e mail to them regarding a visit to measure up for patio doors had caused chaos in the logistics department. Anyway- we get to the office, the door's wide open but no one is there We wait for abnout 5 minutes then some guy in a pick up truck pulls up outside the door and comes in
I say hello, he says hello back and asks if I sell tiles- I replied no,- I'm a customer as well waiting for the staff to arrive. At this point Rhona points out to the guy that his truck which he had left idling outside was rolling down the hill outside the office. We both run out- he jumps into the drivers seat and I single handedly stopped this runaway truck from careering into the wall outside the office by physically holding it back whilst he pulled the handbrake on properly
We then went to the post office to get a PO box- last time Rhona went she was told there were none available by some grumpy bint- Rhona said that I would have to come along as they don't really speak to women on their own. Popped through the door, said hello to the guy and asked of they had any PO boxes available- no he replied. What's the alterantive I asked, where do you stay he replied.
I told him- "that's no problem" he said," we have a poistmnan delivers there anyway" . Confirmed the address- and bingo, one of the great Cyprus chauvenist theories blown apart by the asking of one additional, simple question
Have been somewhat guarded regarding the rip off mentality in Cyprus-don't mind it on holiday so much but now I'm staying here I'm trying to keep a serious head on when it comes to the day to day expenses.
However, today a watery dog poo in the living room on our return led to the Princess Rhona urgently requiring an outside bin-
I jumped into the car and headed to the nearest DIY store where I found a pile of bins under a pile of lids- the price on the lid said 5,95 Euro, I assumed that was the price for the whole enchillada and took it inside to pay- the girl asked me for Euro 23- i said it said 5.95- she pointed out that was the price of the lid- the price of the bucket was Euro 18 and was stamped on the side.
So there you have my first tale of caution- if the lid of the bucket isn't physically attached to the bucket itself the they are sold and charged seperately- you have been warned.
Now I'll have to buy some paint and scrawl my name and the house name over both bucket and lid- will possibly have to specify it along with my watch and the missus' jewllery on the household insurance. Rhona informed me the previous one had also been stolen- at that price no bloody wonder- left about 3 of the things back in the UK thinking they were worthless
Having said that- casn't say I'm really bothered at all- it's all part of the "experience" n'est pas ? _________________ Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day. |
